What you can do

Inside Emulate.

Start from a machine

Choose a sampler-inspired profile for its rate, word length and filter.

Set rate and bits

Keep the profile values or control each manually.

Drive and blend

Push the converter, shape the output and blend with Level and Mix.

Filter and aliasing

Shape conversion with Cutoff, resonance and Aliasing.

Drift and jitter

Add clock movement and instability.

Hear the texture

Delta isolates the change; the display shows the converter's Nyquist frequency.

Profiles are models built from published documentation, with estimated behaviour. Hardware names describe the inspiration; they are not measured replicas and no manufacturer endorses them.

Before / after

Hear what changes.

Compare Emulate with the original. Listening levels are matched.

How this example was made

Only Emulate is processing: Emulate, running as its own plug-in, with its factory preset "E-mu SP-1200", on an Ableton Live Core Library loop. Both versions are loudness matched with a constant gain, so the change cannot win by being louder. No other processing is added.

A first pass

Start with what you hear.

  1. Choose a machine

Start with a profile and listen to its converter and filter as they are.

  2. Push the texture

Change drive, rate, bits and filter one at a time so you hear what each contributes.

  3. Add movement and blend

Bring in drift or jitter if it helps, set the output level and blend with Mix.

Questions

About Emulate.

Is Emulate tape saturation?

No. Emulate is digital conversion: sample rate, quantisation, filtering and clock behaviour. Tape lives in Character.

Can I keep the machine's filter but change its bit depth?

Yes. Rate and word length each have their own Machine/Manual switch, and the filter has its own controls.

Which formats are available?

Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), and macOS 10.15 or later on Apple silicon and Intel. Both have VST3 for your DAW and a standalone application, and the Mac installer adds Audio Units. One purchase covers both platforms: download whichever installer you need from your account.

How do updates work?

Updates are free for as long as we make them. Sign in at your account with the email address you bought with and download the current version. Installing it replaces the plug-in in place, so your presets and existing projects are untouched.

Can I hear it before I buy?

Yes. Every module has a before-and-after example on its page. If you buy and it isn't for you, email us within thirty days for a full refund, no questions asked. See terms and refunds.
